The only problem about writing a review of a book like The Language of Poetry Forms, by Tree Good is keeping the praise from flowing on and on. This is an outstanding primer for poets of all ages and levels.
The purpose of the book is threefold. The first part is a glossary of the common terms of poetry.
The second part is the heart of the book, which describes seventy-five poetic forms and then provides original examples by Tree herself. Her villanelle, Terry Grant is a wonderful homage to a beloved musician, her brother. "Across the field, his music came, at twilight just as day was done, on gentle breeze that spoke his name."
The third part deals with riddles and I found this particularily interesting, not only as an insight into that ancient example of wordplay but also as a window into modern poetic techniques which require the reader to "decode" the images employed.
The Language of Poetry Forms is not only a wonderful read in and of itself but it also would be a great poetry text in a creative writing class from the middle school level up to the University. It does what the ancient Roman poet Horace says great poetry does: Teach by delight.

Awesome Book of Poetry and Forms!!!, August 1, 2007
This is an excellent book of poetry by Tree Good. The book is divided into three sections; it starts with poetry jargons and definitions, then moves into various poetry forms with examples, and concludes with an interesting and fun section on riddle poems.
The first section sets the stage for understanding of the variety of forms to follow by illustrating various techniques to enlighten one's reading. The section on poetry forms is very enlightening. The various types and styles of poems written show an in-depth understanding and appreciation for the art of poetry. Tree Good is like an excellent scientist who takes and breaks down scientific formulas into everyday plain and simple language with clarity. That is how she outlines the poems with explanations in the book.
Naturally, the most favorite form in the book is the "Epulaeryu" poetry form. In writing the form, Tree Good bakes a delicious apple pie that will awaken the appetite and pleases the pallet with anticipation.
The poems and forms are listed in alphabetical order from A through Z. There are some great poems in the book regarding the family, season, love, and music, and life in general. The riddle poems in the last section will test your wits while you're scratching your head in amazement; however, it's all fun and will enlighten your day.
I highly recommend this book of poetry language and forms. I am keeping it close at hand as a handy dandy reference and inspirational book.
Other great books to read are: "Everyday Miracles" by Margaret Okubo, "Trilogy Moments for the Mind, Body and Soul," and "My Walk With Jesus" by Christiana Jussaume.

I know Tree from JPIC and she was one of the few who was nice enough to purchase my book. Trees style of writing is very complex - its sorta like a humble, look what I did now approach. She displays so much humor in most of her forms, and her book is informative because she's an expert, which is why this book should be in every beginning writer or poets handbook.
I favor entertainment in poetry and well, she proves knowledge can be entertainment, and really shows off her wit! I'm very happy I could buy her book as it'll be very beneficial in my owen writing. It has made me realize that maybe I should put in more of a personal touch, as she gives credit for everything in her existence, displaying more of her drive and great personality.
Most people you see writing these days are stuck on free-verse and free-verse is good for impact but until you try all the styles which were well presented by her you can't say you know anything about poetry, because poetry is vast, ever changing and wondrous. I'm still all for saying what you feel in poetry, but it should be a calculated, structured, emotion. If it is not, then it might as well be a journal entry. So thanks Tree for educating all these readers and future poets, being a great friend and showing your talent and style.
One last thing Terry's Poem was so touching, an awesome tribute, made me wish I was lucky enough to be around one of his jam sessions,
Thanks Tree and yay JPIC a home for talented poets.
